Algorithmic Control II

It’s hard to imagine a world without it, but I imagine those who lived their entire lives without knowing or having the access to the internet and still got along just fine in life. I honestly couldn’t even begin to think of what I would do if I didn’t have access to the internet 24/7.

And that is what this weeks lecture topic is about …

In BCM112 we touched on the open access and closed access dynamic in relation to different online appliances and platforms.

My remediation of the two is this;

Open Access supports the idea that knowledge is not meant for those who can pay for it, but rather for everyone. Simply, it can be written by anyone. It is open and unrestricted online access. An example of an open and free platform is Android, anyone can access and modify the code and there isn’t any control over the platform, user or content.

Closed Access is a different story. This remains tethered to its maker’s desires. This pretty much means the owner is the only one that has full access and control over the platform, user and content. Tech giant, Apple is a great example of an appliance that has closed access, they have complete control over its platform, user and content.
